Skitty Kitties

Pictured above: three curious kittens fully entranced with the stalk of weed grass I am playfully wagging along the ground in front of them. They are too skittish to creep any further towards me. Skitty Kitties, as we call them.

A fine example of isolating fear and mistrust trumping curious desire.

If only they knew that the hands that wanted them would shower them with love (and scritches under their chins and behind their ears). Thus is the life of a skittish soul, it will only watch from afar, never experiencing what love (and freedom) might feel like.

Seconds after I shot this and set my camera down, a fourth brave soul flung out of the bush to my right, in a black streak, and pounced the twitching grass in front of me. We were both surprised! While I laughed, he bolted...probably elated with the thrill of his bravery, and ready to be worshipped by his siblings.

I've always known that bravery enlarges the boldness of the heart. We discover that we are more powerful than the fear we own. We learn to trust that we are stronger than we first thought. And, in some cases, we learn that the love that awaits is far greater than the the pain of standing in our fear.

Crazy how four little curious, cautious, fearful, skitty kitties could remind me of this.
