Chores

Zach, my nine year old, is a Cub Scout, working on his Webelos rank. I find it ironic and amusing that to earn his Citizenship belt loop he must make a list of household chores that he can complete for a week (and I'll add...without motherly nagging). So here he is making his list:

Make my bed
Brush my teeth
Clean my room
Empty dishwasher (hmm, I'll give him credit. That one's new.)
Set table

I am waiting with anticipation to see if a Citizenship belt loop will be the golden ticket to getting him to do the very things I've been attempting to get him to do daily for the last few years of his life. Because honestly, I've had to surrender to the fact that he is nine. And a boy. My man-cub. Full of life, drawn to dirt and the urgent, so not phased by a messy room, dirty clothes, grubby hands, or lack of manners.

Yet I do love him so.
