It's 3:30 pm. Super Bowl Sunday 2009. Your team has just received the kick off and are making their way down the field to their first touch down. We've been looking forward to this day for the last two weeks knowing it was going to be an exciting history making game!
And yet I apologize. Your number one fan has checked out for the moment.
You see, my nine year old Zach has come up against a pretty tough decision:
Football...OR...dirt and speed?
Football...OR...a chance to drive a motorized vehicle, all on his own, around acres of property, in California spring-like, shorts- wearing weather, with one of his favorite buddies?
What was he to do?
Ben, what would you have done?
Even with prodding from his mom and dad to come and see you make Super Bowl history, Zach could not ignore the pull on his heart. How could he not give into the desire to experience the grip of that steering wheel in his hands, the rush of wind in his face as he sped off, full throttle, into the sun and dirt?
I am so sorry Ben. You see, you've both got dreams. You're living out yours right now on the field in front of millions for all to see. My son...well...he's living his dream out too.
And he's chosen his nine year old dream of adventure instead of watching you live out your yours.
But it wasn't a total snub. He wore his Steelers shirt under his Steelers jersey to school on Friday and to church on Sunday. And those Steelers socks he's wearing? Yeah, he's had those on for the last three days...
Sincerely,
Zach's Mom
