communicating with the mermaids

Last summer she began a tradition of writing letters to the mermaids in the sandy beach shoreline. Was she ever surprised when the mermaids wrote back to her! She awoke the next morning to a mermaid letter (written in curly cursive with glitter gel hearts and flowers decorating the page) waiting for her on her bedroom floor. Sometimes the mermaids take a few days to write back because they are forgetful out at sea visiting their uncle, King Triton, or performing in some undersea mermaid choir, or harvesting sea shells and sand dollars to leave up on the beach for little girls to find. But Bean waits patiently and makes a gentle comment to her mama that she knows the mermaids won't forget her. (She's also equally as patient with the Tooth Fairy.)

The next photo was a mistake, but I love it. It's from a crab's eye view...

Bean and I are heading off for a road trip down to the southern end of California. I haven't been to San Diego in over 20 years and some friends invited us to come stay at their beach house...like "on the sand" beach house. My boy is heading out tomorrow with our friends, the hubby is staying home (to work) and so the Bean and I will be doing a little traveling together stopping along the way to break up the drive.  The next couple of days I will be packing up but I will for sure post a good-bye before I leave.

Happy weekend!
xoxo

And a road trip to San Diego to stay at a beach house just you and your daughter?? How perfect.
