one very cool purple wall, a greek god, and a homage to Abe

I met them on a very hot summer evening (cursing at the jeans I wore) to attempt to capture a few moments between them that somehow would sum up their special relationship. Our meeting place was at a museum in a downtown central location that both of us were familiar with. It was our plan to set out from there. When I arrived I was surprised to find this amazing purple tiled wall and so we parked there for a short while and eased into the evening.

Ok. Is not Mom just not the most beautiful mom ever?
I wish I could pull off that cute pixie cut and bangs.

We roamed a bit and stopped for a cold drink. I am a huge water girl, but that evening I downed a bottle of Strawberry Kiwi Snapple like it was my last drink.
(Did I mention that I was killin' myself over wearing jeans?)

This was a little homage to his love for Greek history and the Greek gods...
(What a thespian!)

We went to go explore the steps of another museum and found a chair waiting for him. We didn't move it one inch--just took it as a cue to take his place. I laughed as he sat there because he had just finished telling me that in a few days he would be leaving for Washington D.C. and that we was looking forward to visiting the sites. Hmmmm...like the Lincoln Memorial? Cause I'm thinking that he has his own Lincoln Memorial look going on...you think?

I told him to "just stay seated." He looked too cool just chillin' in his chair.

At the end of our time together I had mom pull out a picture of a special moment that she treasured with her son, something that reminded her of their journey together. She brought a few photos but this one seemed to stand out to me the most because of something she had told me in an email before we had met: she had brought her son into this world on her own all those years ago and that they had only had each other. After spending time with them I could tell that their relationship was special, close, bonded, sweet. Seeing her hold her tiny son revealed the story of their journey in one snapshot. That pulled on my heart strings.  I mean, look at how his tiny baby hand is clinging to her shirt. :)

I hope at thirteen my son will still allow me a moment of resting his head on my shoulder.
Witnessing the love between these two was encouraging to me and one of those moments where I came away with more than I gave. Funny how that happens sometimes.
(Thanks T and C for letting me peek in on your relationship. I hope you had a fabulous trip!)

p.s. I posted more photos last week of Mr. Greek God of the Thespians. Click here if you haven't seen them already.
